Description

A creamy and comforting Sahlab is a traditional Middle Eastern drink, perfect for warming up on a cool day. This recipe offers a perfectly balanced flavor with a hint of cinnamon and rose water.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon rose water (optional)
  • Chopped pistachios and shredded coconut for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold milk until smooth.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the remaining milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Gradually add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency (about 5-7 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the rose water (if using).
  6. Pour into a glass or mug and garnish with chopped pistachios, shredded coconut, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Pro Tip

Serve warm, but can also be served chilled. Adjust sweetness based on preference.
