Description
A refreshing Moroccan Mint Tea perfectly balanced for flavor, aroma, and sweetness. This invigorating drink is a staple in Moroccan culture, often enjoyed throughout the day.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Water
- 2 tbsp Green Tea (Gunpowder tea recommended)
- 1/4 cup Fresh Mint Leaves (Spearmint preferred), lightly packed
- 2-3 tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
- Mint sprigs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Boil Water: Bring the water to a boil in a kettle or pot.
- Rinse the Teapot: Pour a small amount of the boiling water into the teapot to warm it, then discard the water. This helps prevent the teapot from cracking and pre-warms it for brewing.
- Add Tea and Mint: Place the green tea leaves into the teapot. Add half of the fresh mint leaves to the teapot along with the tea.
- First Infusion (Rinse): Pour about 1 cup of the boiling water into the teapot and let it steep for 1-2 minutes. This step is mainly to rinse the tea leaves and reduce bitterness. Discard this first infusion.
- Second Infusion (Brew): Add the remaining boiling water to the teapot. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
- Add Sugar: Add the sugar to the teapot and stir until dissolved. Adjust the amount of sugar to your preference.
- Mix and Oxygenate: Pour a small amount of the tea into a glass and then pour it back into the teapot. Repeat this process several times, lifting the teapot higher each time to create a frothy top. This mixes the tea, sugar, and mint while also oxygenating the tea for a better flavor.
- Serve: Pour the tea into small glasses from a height to create a frothy top. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs if desired.
Pro Tip
Serve hot in traditional Moroccan tea glasses. Adjust sweetness according to personal preference. For a more intense mint flavor, gently bruise the mint leaves before adding them to the teapot.
